Terms of use

The fine print,
kept short.

Last updated October 24, 2026

The short version

  • Wren is a shopping list for you and the people you shop with. Use it for that, and be kind to it.
  • Your lists are yours. We only use them to run Wren for you.
  • Wren is offered as is while it’s young. We work hard to keep your lists safe, but we can’t promise it will never go down.

Agreeing to these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Matt Blum (“we”, “us”), who runs hosted Wren: the iPhone app, the web app at app.shopwithwren.com, the sign-in pages at id.shopwithwren.com, and this website at shopwithwren.com. By creating an account or using Wren you agree to them and to our privacy policy. If you use a Wren server that someone else runs, your agreement for that server is with them.

Your account

Households and sharing

A household is a shared space for lists. Everyone in a household can see, add, change and delete its lists and items. The person who created the household is its owner. Only invite people you’re happy to share with, and remember that an invitation link works for anyone who has it until it expires.

Your content

The lists, items and notes you add belong to you. You give us permission to store, copy and display them only as needed to run Wren for you and your household: syncing them, backing them up, and showing them to your household’s members. You’re responsible for what you put in Wren; don’t add anything you don’t have the right to share.

Plans and limits

Wren is free to use. A free household has limits, such as how many members and lists it can have, which are shown in the app. Some people are invited to a plan with fewer limits. If we lower a limit, nothing you already have is deleted, but you may not be able to add more until you’re back under it. If we ever introduce paid plans, we’ll explain the price and terms before you’re charged anything; nothing in Wren today costs money.

Using Wren fairly

Please don’t:

If someone breaks these rules we may limit or suspend their account. Where we can, we’ll explain why first.

API keys and automations

You can create API keys to connect Wren to tools like Home Assistant. A key acts on your behalf with the access you gave it, so keep it secret and revoke it in Settings if it leaks. Requests made with your key count as yours.

Changes to Wren

Wren is new and will change. We may add, change or remove features. If we ever plan to shut down hosted Wren, we’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice and a way to export your lists.

Ending your account

You can stop using Wren at any time and ask us to delete your account at [email protected]. We may close an account that breaks these terms or has been inactive for a long time; for inactivity we’ll email you first.

No warranty

Wren is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise that Wren will always be available, error-free, or that data will never be lost, so don’t rely on it for anything critical.

Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of Wren. Our total liability for any claim relating to Wren is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US$50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll update the date at the top and let you know in the app or by email before the change takes effect. If you keep using Wren after that, the new terms apply.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If you’re a consumer, you keep any protections the law where you live gives you.
